RENO, Nev. — Twenty-seven Wolf Pack student-athletes representing 10 teams have applied for graduation at the University of Nevada this winter. Ceremonies for the 2010 Winter Commencement are set for Saturday, Dec. 4 at Lawlor Events Center.
The Wolf Pack football team is represented by 13 student-athletes, including nine current members of this year’s squad, while Nevada's men’s tennis program has three graduates. The Wolf Pack baseball, men’s tennis, women’s soccer and swimming and diving squads are each represented by two graduates, while Nevada’s men’s golf, skiing, softball and volleyball teams have one graduate each.
Including this winter's 27 graduates, Nevada has seen 324 of its student-athletes graduate in the past five years. The Wolf Pack’s Graduation Success Rate is also at its all-time high of 75 percent and has improved in each of the last six years.
"We are so proud of all of the Wolf Pack student-athletes who have reached the ultimate goal of graduation this winter," Nevada Director of Athletics Cary Groth said. "We wish them the best of luck as they leave the University of Nevada with their degrees and enter the next phase of their lives."
Nevada student-athletes participating in Saturday’s commencement ceremony will wear a special silver and blue cord that is presented to them to recognize their efforts as student-athletes.
“Congratulations to all of our student-athletes who will be graduating this winter,” Dr. Jean Perry, Nevada’s Faculty Athletics Representative said. “We are very proud of all of our student-athletes for the academic progress they continue to make. Only graduating student-athletes are allowed to wear the silver and blue cords as a way of acknowledging the extra time and commitment they have put forth as representatives of the University of Nevada.”
