Athletics to Host Viewing Party Saturday on 40th Anniversary of Title IX
June 18, 2012 RENO, Nev. - Nevada Athletics will host a viewing party for the first televised presentation of the Collegiate Women's Sports Awards and the Honda Cup on Saturday, June 23 in honor of the 40th anniversary of the passage of Title IX. Fans are invited to join Wolf Pack coaches, staff and student-athletes at 12 p.m. on Saturday at the Bully's Sports Bar & Grill on Robb Drive to watch the awards show, which is being televised nationally by ESPN for the first time in the 36-year history of the awards program. The hour-long Collegiate Women's Sports Awards show will include presentation of the Honda Cup, which is awarded to the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year. All this week, Wolf Pack Athletics will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the passage of Title IX with a look back at the top 40 moments in the history of women's athletics at the University of Nevada. Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 is the federal law which prohibits discrimination in all educational programs and activities that receive federal funding, and the legislation was enacted by Congress and signed into law by President Richard Nixon on June 23, 1972. Nevada will reveal the top moments in Wolf Pack women's athletics history online at NevadaWolfPack.com starting on Tuesday, June 19 and culminating on Saturday, June 23, the 40th anniversary of the law. The Wolf Pack will also celebrate the history of women's athletics with a reprise of its Salute to Champions dinner this fall. The date and more information about the Salute to Champions dinner will be released later this summer. |
