Karen Petterson (1978-80/ Swimming & Diving)

As a member of Nevada’s 1979 Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) national championship team, Karen Petterson was inducted as a member of that team. She joined her teammate Ann Belikow as an individual member of the Hall. Petterson was a three-time All-American for the Wolf Pack. Lettering four years, Petterson set five Nevada records in swimming. They included the 50 yard freestyle, the 200 yard free relay, the 400 yard relay, the 200 yard medley relay and the 400 yard medley relay. Her records stood until the late 1980’s. She was an ALL-American in the years of 1978, ’79, and ’80. In the 1979 national championship meet, she finished eighth or higher in six different events, including four fourth place finishes. Petterson also received a third place medal in the 1980 NCAA Championships in the 50 yard backstroke. She was team captain her junior and senior seasons. She was a scholar athlete at the University of Nevada and was the university’s female athlete of the year in 1980. Petterson remained in Re o and owned and operated a successful photography studio. She is the third female individual to be inducted among the hall’s original 13 in 1973. Belikow joined the ranks in 1989. The entire 1979 swim team was inducted as a team in 1991.

Madison Morell


Madison Morell had a career-day in Nevada's 3-2 upset of No. 25 Wyoming. Morell set a new career-high with 31 kills, including five in the fifth set. Her 31 kills was just one shy of tying the program record of 32 set by Lauren Netherby. The Plano, Texas, native is the first player in the Mountain West this season to register 30+ kills and is also tied for ninth in the nation for most kills in a five-set match this season.
