1979 Women's Swimming and Diving Team

The 1979 swimming and diving team went 13-0 in dual meets for the season before capturing the Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women national title inn a meet held in Lombardi Recreation Building. No other University of Nevada athletic team had ever won a national team title. The team roster included the following coaches and athletes: Head Coach Jerry Ballew, Assistant Swimming Coach Loren Cordain, Diving Coach Clyde Devine, Anne Belikow, Paige Bryant, Shari Buonamici, Barbara Buck, Connie Gerling, Pam Gordon, Patti Gordon, Janette Jackson, Mary Mirch, Karen Petterson, Gale Reeder, Teresa Roth, and Cathy Trachok.

Madison Morell


Madison Morell had a career-day in Nevada's 3-2 upset of No. 25 Wyoming. Morell set a new career-high with 31 kills, including five in the fifth set. Her 31 kills was just one shy of tying the program record of 32 set by Lauren Netherby. The Plano, Texas, native is the first player in the Mountain West this season to register 30+ kills and is also tied for ninth in the nation for most kills in a five-set match this season.
