Marv Byars (1949-52/ Track & Field, Basketball)





Marv Byars participated in Track for four seasons at Nevada between the years of 1949 and 1952, captaining the team in his senior year. He left, in possession of three school records, all set during his senior year, marks that stood for many years. Primarily a sprinter, his records came in the 220 yard dash (21.3 seconds), the quarter mile (or 440, 49.8 seconds) and as a member of the mile relay team, which he anchored, which turned in a 3:36 time. In 16 career 440 races, Byars won 13 times. A multi-sport athlete who had emerged out of Reno High School, Byars also participated in basketball for a season (1950-51). A lifelong Reno resident, Byars, a civil engineer, owned his own construction company for 30 years. He won several professional engineering awards, including state engineer of the year in 1982 by the Nevada Society of Professional Engineers. He was involve in several community concerns, including the Airport Authority, the Reno Air Races, the YMCA, and the Wolf Club Boosters.

Greta Ochsner

Rifle

Junior Greta Ochsner helped Nevada split four Patriot Rifle Conference matches at UTEP over the weekend. The 14th ranked Wolf Pack won twice against #20 UTEP and dropped two matches to #10 Ohio State. Ochsner posted the second best score of 575 on Saturday in the smallbore and her 584 in air rifle tied for the third best mark on the day. Sunday she shot 572 in smallbore and 576 in air rifle.
