RENO, Nev. -
Former Nevada skier Shane Collins has been named the winner of the inaugural Wolf Pack Award by the University of Nevada's School of Community Health Sciences.
The award will be given to the student-athlete in the community health sciences major with the highest grade-point average at graduation.
Collins, an alpine skier from Truckee, Calif., holds a 3.758 GPA and will earn his bachelor's degree in health ecology next week.
"The faculty of Community Health Sciences recognizes academic excellence among the many student-athletes who enroll in our courses and complete our major. We thought it very appropriate to recognize this academic excellence in our busy student-athletes by giving the Wolf Pack Award to the student-athlete in our major with the highest GPA at graduation," said Dr. Trudy Larson, Director of the University's School of Community Health Sciences.
Collins will receive a certificate at a brief ceremony during the CHS commencement breakfast on May 19 and will be recognized in the printed commencement program.
