Burton Named College Sports Madness MW POW

College Sports Madness has named Nevada guard Deonte Burton Madness Mountain West Men's Basketball Player of the Week for his exceptional performance during the past week. College Sports Madness identifies the highest impact players nationally and from each conference in our weekly feature. Check out the entire list at http://www.collegesportsmadness.com/mens-basketball/weekly-awards.

Burton averaged 27 points, two rebounds, three assists and four steals as the Pack split a pair of road games.   From the field he shot 54.5 (18-of-33) percent and made 14-of-18 (77.8 %) from the free throw line.

Burton began the week scoring a game-high 25 points in a 78-72 loss at Pacific.  He was good on eight-of-16 shots from the field and eight-of-11 free throws.  In addition he dished out four assists, collected two steals and had a block.

In the Pack's first road win of the season at Washington he scored a season and game-high 29 points as Nevada knocked off the Huskies 76-73.  The 29 points is the high by a Pack player this season, one more than his 28 at Marshall.  Of his 29 points 19 came in the second half and he scored 10 of the Pack's final 16 points of the game.  It was his fourth 20 plus point game of the season and his eighth consecutive double figure scoring game.  He made 10-of-17 shots, three-of-five 3-pointers and six-of-seven free throws.  All three of his 3-pointers made came in the second half as he was three-for-four from behind the arc in the second half.  Burton had a career-high six steals and added a pair of assists.

After Washington rallied from and 18-point deficit to take a one-point advantage with 5:21 to play he converted a traditional three-point play to put the Pack in front 63-61.  Nevada would not trail again.  The Huskies got within a point at 67-66 but his 3-pointer increased the advantage to four, after a pair of free throws by UW he again hit a tough 3-pointer to make it a five-point game with 1:58 to play.  Washington scored two more and he added a free throw to make the score 74-70, giving him a stretch of scoring seven points in a row down the stretch.  He scored seven of Nevada's final nine points of the game and 10 of the final 16 for the Wolf Pack.

In two games versus UW Burton has scored 60 points, 31 last season and 29 this year.  The 31 points is his career high.

We've finally gotten around to adding a feature that several of you have been asking about for quite a while. You can now subscribe to sports schedules in your Outlook or other calendar applications.

We currently have men's and women's basketball schedules posted, along with football. We will have baseball and softball available soon for their Spring seasons, and we'll be adding all the rest of the sports along the way.

You can get the link to subscribe on the right side of the sport's respective front page. They are titled "Downloadable Schedule" and will not take you to a calendar page. Instead, the link should be copied, and pasted into a spot in your calendar application for subscribing to an outside calendar. By using this method, it allows us to change the schedule on our end and have it update on yours automatically. For instance, if a time is not yet scheduled for a game (see Boise State in football this season), we may have it set as an all-day event. Once we get work on the kickoff time, we'll update the schedule, and it will automatically appear as the correct time on your calendar.

To save you a little time, here are the links to the schedules we have up:

Basketball Media Practice

Media Practice Photos

University of Nevada head coach David Carter and his staff put the local media through a typical Wolf Pack practice on Wednesday afternoon at Lawlor Events Center.  The practice is designed to give the media an idea of what the players go through each day.  Coach Carter continues the media practice tradition started by then Pack head coach Mark Fox.

The media began with a stretching session then moved on to various drills before closing out the day with a full court scrimmage.  One perk the media received following practice was pizza, something not typical of a Pack practice.

Nevada begins practice on Friday in preparation for the 2012-13 season.  The Pack hosts Oregon Tech in a free exhibition game on Nov. 6.  The first game of the season is Nov. 10 at UC Irvine.
