March 2012 Archives
It's been a busy few days for some former Wolf Pack men's basketball players:
Congratulations to Matt Ochs who was just named the head coach of the Reno High Schools boys basketball program - link
Ramon Sessions is tearing it up in Los Angeles since being traded to the Lakers recently - link
And JaVale McGee is contributing to the Denver Nuggets after his trade and even made the game-winning dunk in his debut on Wednesday night - link and link
Although the Wolf Pack men's basketball season ended last night, a future member of the team is still playing this weekend. Nevada signee Marqueze Coleman and his Alemany high school team in Mission Hills, Calif., will play for the CIF Division III championship Saturday at 2:45 p.m. in Sacramento. Coleman is averaging 21.5 points per game for Alemany, which has turned in a 32-4 record this year and has won nine playoff games in a row heading into Saturday's game.
It has been a big week for Coleman as he was named a winner of the 2012 John R. Wooden Award High School Player of the Year award on Wednesday. Coleman will receive that award at the Wooden Award Gala at the Los Angeles Athletic Club in April. Coleman will be the one of two student-athletes on the 2012-13 Wolf Pack team to have won that prestigious award, joining current sophomore sensation Deonte Burton who won it in 2010.
Coleman was also named the 2012 CIF Southern Section co-Div. III-A Player of the Year, while Coleman and his fellow Wolf Pack signee, Cole Huff of Campbell Hall High School, have been named to the CIF All-Southern Section first team.
