Ogden, Utah -

The University of Nevada cross country team recorded a ninth place team finish, the best in school history, at the NCAA Mountain Regionals hosted at Schneiter's Riverside Golf Course by Weber State.

Colorado won the 20 team race with 29 points, and Mountain West champion New Mexico finished second with 64 points beating third place Bringham Young who finished with 109 points. Nevada finished third among Mountain West teams behind New Mexico and Air Force (5th place, 185 points). The Wolf Pack's 253 points were enough to edge out Mountain West opponents Colorado State (10th place, 302 points), Utah State (11th place, 318 points), and Wyoming (13th place, 338 points).

Junior Demerey Kirsch set a new school record for the Silver and Blue on her way to a 17th place finish with a time of 21:04. Senior Samantha Diaz was close behind finishing in 24th place with a time of 21:14, and Sophomore Emily Myers was the third finisher for the Pack with a 54th place finish in a time of 21:51. Junior Caitlin Devitt-Payne and Julie Pedersen were the final Wolf Pack runners to finish in scoring position as they recorded 77th (22:13) and 81st (22:18) place finishes respectively. Sophomore Erika Root finished in 86th place with a time of 22:25, and freshman Laura Palacios finished in 105th place with a time of 22:47.

Head Coach Kirk Elias was very pleased with the team, "We raced really well, and followed the race plan to a "T"." "The race went out conservative up front, right at a 21:00 6K time, and that really worked well for us," Coach Elias said of how the race was run. "Right now we just want to celebrate our accomplishment."

Nevada's previous best finish at the NCAA Regionals was 10th in 2007. The 2007 race was also held on the Schneiter's Riverside Golf Course in Ogden, Utah. Christina Avena was the Pack's top finisher that year with a 34th place finish and a time of 22:00.
