Reno, Nev. -
The University of Nevada cross country team will be on the road this weekend competing in the NCAA Mountain Region Championships hosted by Weber State in Ogden, Utah. The women’s 6-kilometer race begins at 1:15 p.m. MT.
The Mountain Region is comprised of 21 teams from eight conferences and nine states. Overall, the Mountain West, Pac-12, West Coast, Summit League, Big Sky, WAC, Big 12, and Conference USA will be represented by teams in the Mountain Region. New Mexico has won the race two out of the last three years, but host school Weber State is this year’s defending champion. Nevada finished 13th at last year’s Mountain Region Championship hosted by Colorado State in Ft. Collins, Colo.
“The team is pretty upbeat,” head coach Kirk Elias said. “Some of our best practices this season have happened since the conference meet.” The Pack is training better now than during the middle part of the season and is determined to have a good showing.
Nevada had several runners in action this last weekend as Coach Elias sent four runners to the Doc Adams Invitational hosted by UC Davis in Davis, California. Kristen Morrill was the top finisher for the Pack with a time of 23:38 landing her in 35th place overall. The meet was the final chance this season for the group of runners to gain more race experience.
