Cross Country at Bronco Invite Saturday
RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada cross country team will compete at the 5K Bronco Invite Saturday morning at Baylands Regional Park in Sunnyvale, Calif. The meet, which is hosted by Santa Clara University, is the largest meet west of the Mississippi River this weekend as it will feature over 630 runners in four races.
The women's 5K race will begin at 9:45 a.m. In addition to Nevada, other women's teams competing include: Black Hills State; Boise State; California-Berkeley; Fresno State; Hawaii-Manoa; Long Beach State; New Mexico State; Pepperdine; Sacramento State; San Jose State; host Santa Clara; Stanford; UC Davis; San Diego; UNLV and USF.
"Our whole team is looking forward to the Bronco Invitational. It is a fun weekend for everyone and Santa Clara does a wonderful job hosting the meet," head coach Kirk Elias said. "There is always very good field of around 15 teams. The course is flat and fast. The race is a great tune up, almost a speed session two weeks prior to conference. We have run well there for three years in a row. We plan on making it four!"
Nevada finished third out of 17 teams at the Bronco Invite in 2008, fourth out of 16 teams in 2007 and sixth out of 12 teams in 2006.
The Bronco Invite will mark Nevada's last meet of the year before the team hosts the WAC Championships on October 31 at Rancho San Rafael Park.
