RENO, Nev. -
The University of Nevada cross country team will host the Nevada Chase Rally Friday morning at Rancho San Rafael Park.
The women's 4k race will start at 9 a.m., and will feature runners from Nevada and Sacramento State.
“The dual meet Friday with Sacramento State will be a crazy relay race with each athlete running four legs of the race,” head coach Kirk Elias said. “It is a great chance for our athletes to get in multiple race like situations in one competition.”
The event will be a relay with each runner covering legs of two miles, a half mile, a mile, then a half mile again. Times will be added together from each segment to create a four mile time for each athlete.
“Our young squad, which has had two freshman, two sophomores and a junior in the top-five the past two races, can use a little seasoning,” Elias said. “This format should speed up the process.”
Nevada placed sixth at the Dellinger Invitational last Saturday at the Springfield Country Club in Springfield, Ore. Nevada junior Samantha Diaz led the team in the 5,000-meter race, finishing in 15th place with a time of 17:19. The team had many personal records achieved, as six of Nevada’s participants increased their past marks.
