Cross Country Hosts Final Home Meet of the Season

RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada cross country team will host the Nevada Jim Vanden Heuvel Twilight Cross Country Classic on Saturday, Sept. 10. The meet which has divisions for eighth grade and under, high school and college, will be Nevada’s final home performance of 2011 and will be hosted at Shadow Mountain Park, in Sparks, Nev. The meet begins at 5:30 p.m. with eighth grade and under boys and girls running 3,000-meters. The divisions will then run at 25 minute intervals for freshman boys, freshman girls, sophomore boys, sophomore girls, junior/senior boys and junior/senior girls. The college/open women division will run at 8:30 p.m. and then the high school boys varsity teams at 8:55 p.m. and high school girls varsity at 9:20 p.m. to close out the day. Nevada finished fourth at the Nevada Chase Race last weekend, in its first performance of the season. The Wolf Pack used the meet as a tune-up, holding out a number of its top runners. Freshman Caitlin Devitt-Payne was the Pack’s top runner placing fourth individually in her first collegiate race in the Silver and Blue. At the Twilight Classic, Nevada will have 10 runners competing. Sophomore Johanna Olsson is expected contend for the Pack’s top spot and is a transfer from Taby, Sweden. Devitt-Payne will also be running for Nevada in addition to senior Jennifer McEntire, redshirt freshman Demerey Kirsch, freshman Katie Romanko, junior Gloria Sosa, sophomore Amber Karnofel, junior Katarina Ratkowiak, freshman Lauren Hunsaker and freshman Riley Kellermeyer.
