COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Junior Emily Myers of the Nevada cross country team is this week’s Mountain West Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.

Myers made an impressive season debut Friday night at the Nevada Twilight Classic to earn the first MW weekly award of her career. The Arkansas native finished second in the field of 52 runners at Shadow Mountain Park in nearby Sparks, clocking in at a personal-record time of 14:29 on the 4K course.

Myers’ time is the second-fastest 4K time in school history, coming in just three seconds shy of setting a new record. She bested her 2013 Nevada Twilight Classic time by nearly a full minute, having ran at a 15:26 pace a year ago.

Her run at Shadow Mountain Park helped the Wolf Pack capture the Nevada Twilight Classic to open the 2014 season. The Pack bested five other teams in the field to win the event, including No. 21 Utah.

Nevada is back in action Sept. 13 at the WCC Preview held in Sunnyvale, Calif. at Baylands Regional Park.
