Former Cross Country Student-Athlete Wins Two Gold Medals at the Swedish National Championships
SWEDEN – Former University of Nevada cross country runner Charlotte Schonbeck won two gold medals at the Swedish National Championships this weekend. She also recorded a PR in the 800m at the Amsterdam Open in the Netherlands on Saturday.
Schonbeck won the 800m and 1500m at the Swedish National Championships for her first national titles. She won the 1500m with a time of 4:24.59 and the 800m in 2:04.58 which was a PR.
On Sunday, she won the 800m and set a PR with a time of 2:03.58 at the Amsterdam Open in the Netherlands.
“Never stop believe in yourself, because you can make it, even if it sometimes doesn't feel like it,” Schonbeck said. “I never stopped believing, which resulted in gold at nationals. I went to the nationals with three silver medals in my pocket. Now it was time to get one gold but I left the nationals with two gold medals and one PR in heavy rain at the 800m. This is a breakthrough for me.”
During the 2006-07 season, Schonbeck was named to the All-WAC cross country first team after finishing second at the WAC Cross Country Championships. During the indoor track and field season she was named to the All-WAC second team in the 800m.
