McEntire Leads Wolf Pack Cross Country at Nevada Chase

RENO, Nev. - Jenifer McEntire took fifth place to lead the University of Nevada cross country team to a second place team finish at the 2010 Nevada Chase Race Saturday at Rancho San Rafael Park.

The redshirt junior from Fresno, Calif. finished the 5000-meter course with a time of 20:43.  Utah's Amanda Mergaert was the first runner to finish the race, helping the Utes secure a first place team finish.  Sacramento State took third.

"Jen has gotten so good, that even when she's a little off, she's still solid for us," head coach Kirk Elias said. "She's emerging as a huge talent."

Gloria Sosa (RSo., Carson City, Nev.) finished seventh overall with a time of 20:57, and sophomore Nicole Painter (So., Mililani, Hawaii) turned in a time of 21:05 to place eighth overall.

Redshirt sophomore Tara Dines (Sierra City, Calif.) finished 11th with a time of 23:39.  Alissa Hood (Fr., Granite Bay, Calif.) placed 16th with a time of 24:12.  Freshman Mariah Gramolini (Stagecoach, Nev.) finished with a time of 22:30 to take 17th overall.  Katarina Ratkowiak (So., Yucca Valley, Calif.) rounded out the Wolf Pack's lineup, finishing 18th with a time of 24:57.

"I thought we worked hard today," Elias said.  "These last two weeks were the hardest training blocks of the season, and I think it showed.  We were tired.  We'll be ready for the races later in the season, though."

Nevada will travel to Sunnyvale, Calif. for the Bronco Invitational at Baylands Park Saturday, October 16.  The women's 5000-meter race will start at 9:45 a.m.
