Cross Country Takes Fifth at Sundodger Invitational
SEATTLE - The University of Nevada cross country team finished fifth out of nine teams Saturday morning at the Sundodger Invitational at Lincoln Park in Seattle, Wash.
Nevada finished fifth overall, ahead of Eastern Washington, Portland State, Seattle University and Western Oregon. Washington's Lindsay Flanagan finished first to help the third ranked Huskies win the Invitational. Idaho, the only other Western Athletic Conference team in attendance, finished second.
Senior Jenifer McEntire (Fresno, Calif.) was the first Wolf Pack runner to finish, placing 15th out of 93 runners with a time of 21:53. Samantha Diaz (So., Shingle Springs, Calif.) took 20th overall with a time of 22:07.
Nicole Painter (So., Mililani, Hawaii) placed 49th with a time of 23:18, and redshirt sophomore Gloria Sosa (Carson City, Nev.) finished moments later (23:19) to take 50th overall.
Freshman Kara Schrock finished 52nd with a time of 23:39. Alissa Hood (Fr., Granite Bay, Calif.) placed 75th with a time of 24:12. Mariah Gramolini (Fr., Stagecoach, Nev.) rounded out Nevada's lineup finishing 85th with a time of 24:57.
"This was a positive experience, and that's what we need right now," said head coach Kirk Elias. "We're running really well, and I expect us to get better. We're going to be a nice little squad before this season is over."
This was the Wolf Pack's first trip to the Sundodger Invitational, and the team's first 6000m race of the season.
Nevada will host the Nevada Chase Race Saturday, October 2 at Rancho San Rafael Park. The women's 5000m race will start at 10 a.m.
