Salave`a Named To AVCA West Region Volleyball Team

Colorado Springs, Colo. - University of Nevada senior middle blocker Salaia Salave`a was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association West Region volleyball team. The Leone, American Samoa native was an honorable mention West Region selection last year.
Salave`a was a three-time first-team Western Athletic Conference, four-time WAC Tournament, and three-time WAC Preseason team selection. In 2002 she garnered WAC Freshman of the Year honors and was named to the All-WAC second-team.
This past season she led the Wolf Pack in kills(3.99kpg), and points(4.86ppg). She ranks first at Nevada in career points(2,097), solo blocks(113), block assists(424), and total blocks(537). Her 1,665 kills is the second most in school history and in total her name appears in the Nevada record book 30 times.
A four-year starter, she played in 124 of a possible 125 matches in her career. Twice this season she posted triple-doubles, the first of her career with 18 kills, 14 digs, and 10 blocks versus #21 Cal and 26 kills, 12 digs, and 12 blocks at Louisiana Tech. Her seven double-doubles on the year led the Pack and 16 times she led Nevada in kills of which 15 were match highs. Three times she was named to all-tournament squads in 2005. She was named MVP of the Circus Circus/Molten Invitational and the Sept. 19 WAC Player of the Week after posting her first career triple-double.
