Johnson Named To ESPN The Magazine District 8 Academic Volleyball Team
Reno, Nev. - University of Nevada senior setter Tristin Johnson has been named to the ESPN The Magazine District 8 Academic Volleyball Team as voted on by the college sports information directors in the district. Johnson carries a 3.75 grade point average in accounting and is now eligible to earn Academic All-America honors as her name will appear on the national ballot. Former teammate Christine Harms was a first-team district 8 selection the previous two seasons and was named to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Volleyball second-team following her senior campaign in 2005.
This season Johnson tops the team averaging 10.65 assists per game which ranks fourth in the Western Athletic Conference. She was named the MVP of the Molten Invitational after averaging 11.33 assists, 2.00 kills, and 2.83 digs with a .429 attack percentage in leading the Wolf Pack to the title and was also selected to the Holiday Inn Classic All-Tournament team after helping the Pack to a 2-1 record and second place finish. In Nevada’s 3-2 win over Boise State on Oct. 19 she had a career high 66 assists.
Johnson’s 4,243 career assists ranks second only to Carla Busalacchi’s(1990-93) 4550 in school history. She has two of the top 10 assist seasons in school history with her 1,373 in 2004 ranking third and her 1,168 in 2003 being the eighth best single season in school history. Her 106 career service aces is sixth all time at Nevada and one back of Tiffany Neumeier(1994-97) for fifth and her 639.5 points ranks seventh in school history.
