This Week - Nevada welcomes two teams to Reno for its final home stand of 2012, taking on Boise State 14-12 (5-5 MW) on Thursday and Air Force 8-16 (2-8 MW) on Saturday ... The Pack fell in five sets at Boise State on October 13 and in four sets at Air Force on October 11 ... Thursday night will be N7 night ... Saturday night will be the final home match for three Pack players, as Janelle Batista, Kelly Chang and Elissa Ji take the court for the final time at VSG ... Tessa Lea'ea is 11 kills from 300 with four matches remaining ... She had 223 as a freshman a season ago ... Defensively this season, Lea'ea has been stout at the net with 125 blocks ... To date, she has set career highs for a season in kills, attempts, solo blocks, assisted blocks, total blocks and points.
Last Week - The Wolf Pack fell to Fresno State and UNLV by the same score, 3-0, on Thursday and Saturday, respectively ... Batista led Nevada in kills on Thursday night with eight and was supported offensively by Bonnie Paul with seven ... Lea'ea led the Pack on Saturday with 11 kills and three total blocks, two of the solo variety ... Kara Kasser was also strong defensively against the Rebels with 13 digs ... UNLV's victory gave the Rebels the three volleyball points up for grabs in the Governor's Series presented by NV Energy in 2012-13.
Conference Leader - Lea'ea leads the entire Mountain West in solo blocks at 21, two ahead of Madeline Westman of UNLV. Overall, Lea'ea is fifth in total blocks (125) and fourth in blocks per set (1.33). If Lea'ea can post a mere 11 kills over the next four matches, she will be the first Nevada player to reach 300 in a season since Kylie Harrington in 2010. She is currently seventh in the conference in kills.
Young Leadership - True freshman Taylar Rothfuss has started the last four matches at the setter position for the Wolf Pack. With five starts under her belt in her maiden campaign, Rothfuss is getting her chance to direct the Wolf Pack attack. To date, she is averaging 6.91 assists per set, totaling 152 in 22 frames.
Contributions - Grace Anxo, Paul, Chang and Ji have all chipped in to help the Pack this season. Anxo has started each match and has 180 digs, 153 kills and 34 total blocks. Paul has 149 kills, 43 total blocks and 17 service aces in 86 sets. Chang earned all-tournament libero honors at the Utah Classic and has 269 digs in 90 sets. Ji has 52 kills, 16 assists, nine service aces, 135 digs and 10 total blocks.
