Nevada On The Road For Two WAC Matches This Week
The University of Nevada (11-11, 5-4 WAC) volleyball team takes to the road for a pair of Western Athletic Conference matches this week. The Wolf Pack are at Fresno State (10-11, 4-5 WAC) on Thursday then play at San Jose State (8-15, 3-6 WAC) on Saturday with both matches starting at 7 p.m. Nevada defeated FS 3-1 back on Sept. 30 and SJSU 3-0 on Oct. 2 in Reno. The Pack is 9-2 at home but just 2-9away from the Virginia Street Gym. The team’s on true road win was a 3-1 victory at Boise State on Oct. 7.
Team Notes: Nevada currently sits in third placed in the WAC standings, one half game in front of Idaho and Fresno State...Nevada split its two WAC matches last week falling 3-1 to NMSU and sweeping LA Tech...Nevada won its first true road match of the season downing Boise State 3-1 on Oct. 7...Nevada snapped a season-high five-match losing skid defeating SJSU 3-0 on Sept. 30 which was also the first WAC win of the season...the Pack are 9-2 at home, 1-6 on the road and 1-3 at neutral sites...the Pack won the Nevada (Sept 3-4) and Wolf Pack Invitationals (Sept. 10-11) that were played at home in the Virginia Street Gym...Nevada had its season-high four-match win streak snapped in a 3-1 loss to #24 Arizona, Sept. 3...Nevada was picked to finish seventh in the Preseason Western Athletic Conference Coaches’ Poll...the Pack rank fifth in hitting (.190%), fifth in assists (11.42 aps), sixth in blocking (2.14 bps), eighth in digs (13.10 dps), seventh in opponent hitting percentage (.211%), fifth in kills (12.59 kps) and seventh in service aces (1.04 saps) in the WAC...in WAC play Nevada ranks third in hitting (.242%), third in assists (13.50 aps), fifth in blocking (2.05 bps), third in digs (14.25 dps), third in opponent hitting percentage (.196%), first in kills (14.75 kps) and are tied for fifth in service aces (1.00 saps).
Player Notes: Senior outside hitter Kylie Harrington has led or tied for the team lead in kills in 14-of-22 matches this season...Harrington has a team-high five double-doubles with the most recent being a 20 kill, 12 dig outing in a 3-1 win over Utah State on Oct. 15...the 20 kills by Harrington is the high by a Pack player this season...freshman outside hitter Grace Anxo produced a double-double in her first collegiate match vs. Utah Valley on Aug. 27 with 12 kills and 11 digs then added a second vs. FS on Oct. 2 with 15 kills and 11 digs...junior setter Tatiana Santiago has three double-doubles on the season with last one being a 43 assist, 11 dig outing versus New Mexico State on Oct. 21...Santiago dished out a career-high 59 assists vs. FS on Oct. 2...Santiago became the 10th setter in school history to reach the 1,000 assist mark in her career this season and needs eight more for 1,400...Harrington recorded her 1,000th career kill vs. UNLV (Sept 7) making her the 10th Nevada player to accomplish the feat and currently has 1,123...senior middle blocker Lindsay Baldwin (8 ba), Anxo (1 bs, 7 ba) and sophomore middle blocker Janelle Batista (8 ba) all had eight blocks in the Pack’s 3-2 victory over Notre Dame (Sept. 4) ...Baldwin surpassed 400 career total and block assists this season...Baldwin hit .667 in the Pack’s 3-0 victory over Weber State (Sept. 3)...Harrington (Sept. 4 vs. ND, Oct. 2 vs. FS, Oct. 9 at Idaho), Baldwin (Oct. 2 vs. FS) and Anxo (Sept. 27 at UNLV) each have 17 kills in a match which was the previous high by a Nevada player prior to Harrington’s 20 vs. Utah State on Oct. 15...Baldwin surpassed 900 career kills in the Pack’s 3-1 win over FS on Oct. 2 and is 12 from 1,000...Baldwin’s nine blocks (1 bs, 8 ba) at UNLV (Sept. 27) and vs. New Mexico State (Oct. 21) are Nevada season highs...junior right side hitter Erin Garvey produced a career-high 15 kills at Boise State on Oct. 7 and her .335 attack percentage in WAC play is seventh in the conference...sophomore Janelle Batista totaled a career-high 11 kills in Nevada’s 3-1 win over Utah State on Oct. 15...Santiago ranks fifth averaging 9.90 assists per set in the conference but in WAC only play is first with 11.72 per set...Harrington is sixth in kills (3.32 kps) and seventh in points (3.78 pps) per set in the conference but in WAC play is third in kills (3.91 kps) and fourth in points (4.44 pps)...Baldwin ranks ninth in hitting (.324), points (3.80 pps) and kills (3.19 kps) in WAC play...Harrington is tied for fifth in WAC action averaging .28 service aces per set...senior libero Nicole Link has led Nevada in digs 17 times this season with a season-high 23 dig effort vs. Northern Arizona (Sept. 3)...seven times Link has posted match-highs in digs...Link ranks sixth in the WAC averaging 3.77 digs per set and sixth in WAC only matches at 3.88 per set...Harrington, Baldwin, Link and Santiago have started all 22 matches this season...reserve setter Dana Holt came off the bench at UNLV (Sept. 27) and nearly lead the Pack to a victory after they trailed 2-0 before falling 3-2 as she topped the team with 23 assists...freshman Brianna Heinen had a career-high 12 digs at Idaho on Oct. 9.
Nevada Split Two WAC Home Matches
The University of Nevada volleyball team split a pair of Western Athletic Conference home matches last week. The Wolf Pack lost 3-1 to New Mexico State on Thursday then swept Louisiana Tech on Saturday.
Nevada won the first set with NMSU 25-16 then lost 25-22, 25-20 and 25-21. Lindsay Baldwin led three Pack players in double figures with 13 kills while Kylie Harrington had 12 and Erin Garvey 10. Setter Tatiana Santiago had 43 assists and 11 digs to post a double-double. Libero Nicole Link had a match-high 19 digs.
The Pack defeated LA Tech 25-20, 25-20 and 25-22 to sweep the Lady Techsters. Freshman Grace Anxo had a match-high 13 kills as Nevada had three players in double figures as Baldwin had 11 kills and Harrington 10. Santiago totaled 30 assists and freshman Dana Holt 10. The Pack hit a season best .310 in the win.
Pack Players Climbing Career Lists:
Four Pack players are current ranked in the top 10 in various career lists and continue to climb the charts this season. Senior middle blocker Lindsay Baldwin is fifth in career points with 1,294, is third with 410 block assists and third with 453 total blocks. Her .246 attack percentage is eighth on the career list. Her 43 solo blocks is tied with Carla Busalacchi (1990-93) for 10th in Pack history. She recorded her 900th career kill in the Pack’s 3-1 victory over FS on Oct. 2 and 12 would give her 1,000 for her career. The 1,000 kills would make her the 11th play at Nevada to reach the lofty mark.
Senior outside hitter Kylie Harrington is ranked in the Pack career top 10 in two categories. Harrington is sixth with 1,253.5 points and 10th with 1,123 career kills. She became just the 10th Nevada player to reach 1,000 career kills in the UNLV match on Sept. 27.
Another senior Nicole Link recorded her 1300th dig last week and currently ranks third with 1,319 in three plus seasons.
Junior setter Tatiana Santiago dished out her 1,000th career assist in the Hawai’i match on Sept. 24 becoming the 10th setter in Pack history to reach the lofty mark. Santiago recorded her 1,300th assist at NMSU on Oct. 17 and currently has 1,392 assists in two plus seasons leaving her eight from 1,400.
