Wolf Pack Volleyball News and Notes

MW play continues - Mountain West play continues this week for Nevada as they host Colorado State on Thursday and Wyoming Saturday.  The Rams are the only unbeaten team in the conference at 12-0 and in MW play stand at 3-0.   They are currently ranked 17th in the lastest AVCA poll.
    The Cowgirls are 8-7 on the season and 0-3 in conference play.  Wyoming hosts a doubleheader on Tuesday with Colorado and Black Hills State. - Nevada's matches this week will be shown live on for free.

Holt nearing 1,100 assists - Senior setter Dana Holt recorded her 1,000th assist at the Cougar Invitational earlier this season and with 42 the opening weekend of MW play is 48 shy of 1,100 for her career.  Holt had 667 assists last season before injury forced her to miss time.  She tops the team with 340 assists this season and ranks ninth in the MW averaging 8.29 per set.
Lea`ea and Anxo on the move - Junior middle blocker Tessa Lea'ea and senior outside hitter Grace Anxo are on the move up the Wolf Pack career points list.  Lea'ea is eighth with 864.5 points while Anxo ranks ninth with 793.5.  
    Next on the list for Lea`ea is Michelle More's (2001-02) 1,084.5 points which she totaled in just two seasons.  Her current 3.69 points per set is eighth in the conference.
    Anxo is looking to pass Erin Garvey's (2008-11) total of 821.5.  She is averaging 2.35 points per set this season.

All-tournament honors - Nevada began the season play in four tournaments and three different players were name to all-tournament squads during the stretch.  Sophomore middle hitter Sam Willoughby selected to three all-tournament teams; Wolf Pack Invitational, Lone Star Showdown and Cougar Invitational.
    Junior middle blocker Tessa Lea'ea earned the honor the first week of the season at the Cal Molten Classic.  Sophomore defensive specialist Kara Kasser was named to the Wolf Pack Invitational all-tournament squad.

Blocking machine also ranks in attack percentage - Junior middle blocker Tessa Lea'ea ranks in Nevada's career top 10 in all three blocking categories.  Lea'ea's 287 career total blocks ranks seventh in Pack history as does her 239 block assists.  Her 48 solo blocks is tied for ninth with Lindsay Baldwin (2007-10).
    Last season Lea`ea totaled 141 blocks which tied Karly Sipherd for the third best season in Pack history.  Her 116 blocks assists was the fifth best season and 25 solo blocks tied for the ninth best year at Nevada
    Currently her 1.26 blocks per set ranks fourth in the Mountain West.  
    Lea'ea ranks fifth in career attack percentage at .279.

Newcomers taking the court - Six newcomers have taken the court for the Wolf Pack this season and five have made starts.  Freshman right side hitter Madison Morell has seen the most action appearing in all14 matches with 12 being starts.  
    Sophomore Kinsey Minter and junior Donna Greely have each played in 10 matches.  Minter has made two starts and Greely one.  Freshman defensive specialists Madison Thorpe and Nicole Burdo have four and three starts respectively.  Thorpe has played in eight matches and Burdo six.  Freshman middle blocker Kathryn Groenweghe has appeared in five matches.

Nevada seeks to end streaks - Nevada has lost a season-high five matches in a row and 17 consecutive MW matches dating back to last season.  The Pack won its first MW match last season defeating San Diego State but lost the next 15 coupled with the two to start this season the streak has reached 17.
