Nevada Falls In Four To UC Irvine At LMU Classic


Los Angeles - The University of Nevada(4-4) volleyball team fell to 0-2 at the LMU Four Points Sheraton LAX Classic in Los Angeles after losing in four games to UC Irvine(1-6) on Saturday morning.  The Anteaters defeated the Wolf Pack by scores of 30-25, 25-30, 30-16, and 34-32 to record their first win of the season while Nevada’s record stands at 4-4.

Senior Carly Sorensen, who recorded her 1,000 career kills yesterday, posted her fifth double-double of the season and third in as many matches leading the Pack with 12 kills and adding 10 digs on Saturday morning.  Junior Karly Sipherd finished with 10 kills in the match.  Senior setter Tristin Johnson dished out a match high 38 assists in the loss.  Allison Hernandez and Lauren Kelly tied for team high honors with 14 digs each.

UCI was led by McCall Miller’s 16 kills and 19 digs as she posted one of two double-doubles for the team.  Lauren Kellerman tallied 15 kills and 14 digs to record the second double-double of the match by an Anteater player.  Devon Sutherland tied for match high honors with 19 digs.  Setter Taryn Robertson led UCI with 29 assists.

Both teams struggled offensively but UCI hit .130 compared to Nevada’s .053 attack percentage.  The Anteaters won the blocking battle 11-7.  Sipherd and Johnson led the Pack with three blocks each.

Nevada closes out the weekend against Loyola Marymount tonight at 7:30 p.m.
