Last Week - Nevada fell three times at the Community Bankers Classic hosted by the Pacific Tigers ... At the event, every match ended by a 3-0 score ... The Pack fell to Northern Illinois, the host Tigers and Portland State ... Tessa Lea’ea was named to an all-tournament team for the second consecutive week, as she also earned all-event honors at the Fairfield Inn North Baylor Classic ... She had 25 kills and six total blocks to lead the Pack in both categories.
Continuing Trend - Two all-conference performers from a year ago, Lea’ea and Janelle Batista, picked up where they left off in 2011 in the Pack’s first six contests ... Lea’ea was an all-newcomer honoree, while Batista was an all-second team selection in Nevada’s final WAC season. Both middle blockers, Lea’ea has 70 kills and 29 total blocks in 22 sets, while Batista has 43 kills and 13 total blocks in the same number of sets.
Immediate Impact - Kara Kasser, a freshman from Brea, Calif. (Brea Olinda HS) has made her mark on the 2012 Wolf Pack. The defensive specialist leads Nevada with 90 digs in 22 sets. Her average of 4.09 per set leads the team. She is the only Nevada player with a dig-per-set average above three.
Holt New Direction - Junior setter Dana Holt is getting her first crack at running the offense in 2012 and is doing so in fine form. She has 183 assists in 22 sets for an average of 8.32 per set and a .290 set percentage.
New Conference - Nevada will compete with eight teams in the Mountain West in 2012, after competing in the Western Athletic Conference for the final time during the 2011 season.
Second Time Around - Second-year head coach Ruth Lawanson welcomes five freshmen into an experienced roster in 2012.
Home Sweet Home - The 2012 season will feature 12 home matches for the Wolf Pack, including three in the Wolf Pack Invitational, its season-opening event. It will kick off on September 6 at 7 p.m. in the Virginia Street Gym with Nevada’s contest against Cal State Fullerton.
A Look at Every Team - This season’s Mountain West home slate will feature each team within the conference making an appearance in the Virginia Street Gym. With the home-and-home format in place, fans will be able to see all of Nevada’s conference opponents in Reno.
