Nevada Falls 3-0 To Valparaiso In Season Opener





South Bend, Ind. - The University of Nevada(0-1) volleyball team dropped its season opener to Valparaiso(1-0) by scores of 23-25, 14-25, and 11-25 at the Shamrock Invitational being played at the Joyce Center on the campus of Notre Dame University.  The Wolf Pack begin the season 0-1 for the second consecutive year while the Crusaders improved to 1-0.

The closest of the three sets was the first as the Pack fell 25-23.  Valpo outscored Nevada 5-3 down to the stretch to break a 20-20 tie to take the first set 25-23.  The Wolf Pack hit just .167 while the Crusaders hit .263.

With set two tied at 6-6 the Crusaders scored the next four points and never looked back in winning 25-14 to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.  Valpo hit .273 while the Pack hit zero in set two.

Valpo jumped to a 9-1 lead in set three and closed out the match with a 25-11 victory in the final set.  The Pack were held to a negative .250 attack percentage while the Crusaders hit .088.

Redshirt freshman Brittani Yates led the Pack with six kills while sophomore Kylie Harrington added five.  Setter Sonnie Sei dished out 18 assists in just her second career start.  Junior defensive specialist Lauren Kelly totaled 10 digs.

Angie Porche topped the Crusaders with a match high 13 kills and added 10 digs to post a double-double.  Valpo setter Kim Bukowski recorded a match-high 35 assists while Brittany Malicoat finished with a match-high 13 digs.

For the match Valpo hit .210 and Nevada negative .020.  The Pack won the blocking battle 6-5 as junior Jorgan Staker finished with three.

Next for the Pack is a matchup with Notre Dame on Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m. central.
