RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada (4-25, 2-15 MW) volleyball team defeated Air Force (6-23, 3-14 MW) in a Mountain West match 3-1 at the Virginia Street Gym tonight. The Wolf Pack dropped the first set 25-21 then won the next three by scores of 25-20, 25-23 and 25-19.
With the victory the Pack improved to 4-25 and 2-15 in the MW. The Falcons dropped to 6-23 and 3-14 in the conference.
With the scored tied for the eighth and final time at 21 in the first set the Falcons scored the final four points to win 25-21. Nevada outscored Air Force 16-11 to break nine all tie in the second set to win 25-20 and even the match at one set apiece.
Trailing 22-18 in the third set Nevada put together a 7-1 run to win 25-23. Sophomore Sam Willoughby served six consecutive winning points. There were 10 ties and three lead changes in the final set before the Pack won 25-19 to take the match 3-1.
Senior Grace Anxo led four Nevada players who reached double figures in kills with 16. Madison Morell and Willoughby each finished with 14 while Tessa Lea'ea had 12. Senior setter Dana Holt dished out 28 assists while freshman setter Lyndsey Anderson totaled 22. Libero Kara Kasser had a team-high 16 digs.
Akokwe Clement posted a game-high 18 kills for Air Force. Maggie Sherrill added 13 and Ayesha Hein 11. Setter Hillary Keltner had a match-high 37 assists and 18 digs to record a double-double. Rachael Bradley Powers finished with 16 digs.
Nevada hit .274 and the Falcons .203. The Pack won the blocking battle 7-5.
The final home match of the season is Saturday night at 7 p.m. when New Mexico is at the Virginia Street Gym. The Pack's two seniors Anxo and Holt will be honored after the match for their contributions to Nevada volleyball.
