RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada (2-14, 0-4 MW) volleyball team lost to Wyoming (11-7, 1-3 MW) in a Mountain West match at the Virginia Street Gym today by scores of 25-22, 25-12 and 25-23. The loss was the seventh in a row for the Wolf Pack dropping them to 2-14 on the season and 0-4 in the MW. The Cowgirls won for the first time in MW play improving to 1-3 and 11-7 overall.
There were 13 ties and three lead changes in the first set but Wyoming scored the final three points to take the set 25-22. In set two the Cowgirls put together a 7-1 run to break a 6-6 tie and went on to win 25-15. Trailing most of set three Nevada rallied to close within a point at 24-23 but a kill by Wyoming’s Reese Plante gave the Cowgirls the 25-23 set win and 3-0 match victory.
Tessa Lea’ea was the Nevada player in double figures finishing with 11 kills and hit .360 in the match. Making just her second start, freshman setter Lyndsey Anderson had 25 assists and 16 digs to post her first career double-double. Senior Grace Anxo added 11 digs.
Plante posted a match-high 15 kills for the Cowgirls. Rachel Keyes finished with 36 assists and libero Becky Stewart had 16 digs.
Nevada hit .118 and Wyoming .215 in the match. The Pack had eight blocks compared to six for the Cowgirls. Lea’ea led the Wolf Pack with three blocks and Plante had three for Wyoming.
Nevada plays its next two matches on the road at San Jose State on Thursday and Fresno State on Saturday. Both matches get underway at 7 p.m. Watch the matches live on NevadaWolfPack.tv.
