Lea'ea, Willoughby pace Pack past Montana

LUBBOCK, Texas - Propelled by a season-high 22 kills from Tessa Lea'ea and 13 from All-Lone Star Shootout Performer Sam Willoughby, the University of Nevada volleyball team defeated Montana 3-2 (18-25, 25-22, 24-26, 25-22, 16-14) on Saturday.

Nevada improved to 2-7 with the win, closing out its play at the event. Montana, named tournament champion despite its loss to the Wolf Pack, fell to 3-6.

Lea'ea's spectacular offensive day included 49 attacks and a hitting percentage of .265. Willoughby, who was named to an all-tournament team for the second-consecutive week, had 13 successful attacks on 41 chances.

Setter Dana Holt had her best performance of the season, passing for an assist 54 times and recording her second double-double of the year with 10 digs.

Two additional Pack players had at least 10 kills, with Madison Morell at 11 and Grace Anxo at 10. Anxo missed a double-double by one dig, finishing with nine. Kinsey Minter also set a career and season high in kills with eight.

Defensively, Nevada saw two players set career highs in digs. Madison Thorpe led all Nevada players with 19. Kara Kasser had 16. Thorpe chipped in with two kills out of the back row.

Nevada will return to play with a tilt against Idaho on Friday. The match will be the first of three for the Pack in Pullman, Wash.
