RENO, Nev. - Blue scored a 2-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-21) victory over Silver in the Silver and Blue scrimmage on Saturday at the Virginia Street Gym.
Players switched teams during the intrsasquad event, with all three Nevada setters getting a chance to pass with the entire team. Using the scrimmage as a final full-speed practice before the first week of competition begins, coach Ruth Lawanson and her staff mixed formations and lineups.
Grace Anxo led all players with 12 kills, followed closely by Tessa Lea'ea, who concluded the day with 10. Dana Holt led the Wolf Pack's setter with 29 assists, while newcomer Nicole Burdo led all Pack players with 12 digs.
Other newcomers played well offensively, as Madison Morell collected eight kills and Kathryn Groenweghe chipped in with seven. Sophomore Sam Willoughby, moving back to her natural position in the middle this season, seemed comfortable there on Saturday with eight kills as well.
Each of Nevada's 16 players saw time on the court during the scrimmage, which was played in 1:38. Nevada opens regular-season play against New Mexico State on Friday at noon in Berkeley, Calif.
