AUSTIN, Texas -
The University of Nevada track and field team finished up competition at the NCAA Preliminary Championships Saturday at the University of Texas. Nevada's five participants, Danielle Stallworth, Sarah Nichols, Nicole Williams, Deborah Amoah and Mariah Gramolini had good finishes but missed out on making the cut for the NCAA Championships next month. Each event had a total of 48 participants.
Seniors Sarah Nichols and Danielle Stallworth started off the competition for the Wolf Pack in the javelin event, finishing 27th and 29th respectively. Nichols threw for a mark of 43.60m while Stallworth hit a mark of 42.28m.
Senior Nicole Williams cleared a season best 1.71m (5-07.25) in the high jump to finish 23rd.
Junior Deborah Amoah just missed her personal best mark in the long jump, finishing in 24th with a mark of 5.96m. Amoah placed 27th in the triple jump with a mark of 12.37m.
Sophomore Mariah Gramolini finished 46th in the 800m run, clocking in at 2:12.34.
“All of our student-athletes tried their best and gave their all at the preliminaries,” head coach Shantel Twiggs said. “I am proud of the team for their accomplishments this year. We will now turn our attention to getting better for the next indoor and outdoor seasons.”
