The Wolf Pack track and field team collected one bronze and one silver medal on the final day of the Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Wyoming. The Pack saw five athletes finish in scoring position, with two student-athletes improving Nevada All-Time Top-Ten marks.
Raffaela Wiesbeck, the redshirt freshman from Altotting, Germany, put a silver bow on a strong season by finishing in second place in the javelin with a personal best throw of 156’1”. Her throw is a 5’4” improvement on her previous best throw, and is now the seventh best mark in program history. Joining Wiesbeck in the Javelin was sophomore Alyssa Zunino who finished in sixth place with a throw of 139’6”.
The Silver and Blue had two student-athletes score in the high jump with Leah Carter collecting a bronze medal, and Kinsey Minter finishing in fifth place. Four competitors cleared 5’8”, and positions for third through sixth place was determined by the number of missed attempts before successfully clearing 5’8”. Carter cleared the height on her first attempt, and did not miss a height until she attempted 5’9.25”. Minter placed fifth after she cleared 5’8”, but needed two attempts to do so.
Kerri Simmons threw for 49’0.75” to finish in fifth place in the shot put as Nevada’s final point scorer.
On the track Caitlin Devitt-Payne earned a top ten finish in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:43.53 but was two places out of scoring position.
GOVERNOR’S SERIES PRESENTED BY NV ENERGY
Nevada was unable to hold onto momentum from Friday’s action, and UNLV collected three points towards the Governor’s Series Presented by NV Energy by finishing higher than Nevada in the team scores. The Pack finished with 47 points in ninth place overall, while the Rebels finished in seventh place with 59 points. UNLV now leads the series 21 to 15.
