Track and Field to Compete at Cal-Nevada Championships

RENO, Nev. The University of Nevada track and field team will travel to Fresno, Calif., on March 28 and 29 for the Cal-Nevada Championships hosted by Fresno State. The meet will be held at Warmerdam Field on the campus of Fresno State.


Student-athletes from several schools are scheduled to attend the meet including, Chico State, Fresno State, Nevada, San Diego State, Santa Clara, UCLA, UC Davis, UNLV, UC Santa Barbara, CSU Northridge, UC San Diego and CSU Dominguez Hills.


The meet will open on Friday morning at 10 a.m. with the women’s discus prelims and is scheduled to finish at 6 p.m. with the finals of the women’s 5000m run.  On Saturday, the women’s events are scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. with the hammer throw final and will conclude at 5 p.m. with the women’s 4x400 meter relay.


Nevada opened the outdoor season last weekend at the Hornet Invite in Sacramento, Calif.  Throwers Inger Appanaitis (javelin, 48.62m) and Constance McAlman (hammer throw, 55.52m) each won events and recorded regional qualifying marks.  


Up next for Nevada will be the Stanford Invite on April 4 and 5 in Palo Alto, Calif.
