Track and Field Heads to MW Indoor Championships
Feb. 20, 2013 RENO, Nev. - WHAT'S HAPPENING The University of Nevada track and field team will head to Nampa, Idaho to compete in the 2013 Mountain West Indoor Championships hosted by Boise State at Jacksons Indoor Track. The meet will run from Thursday, Feb. 21 through Saturday, Feb. 23. This is the first time in the 14-year history of the league that Boise State will host the MW Indoor Track and Field Championships. Jacksons Indoor Track served as the location of the 2012 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. THOUGHTS FROM COACH TWIGGS RECAP OF LAST MEETS Nevada closed out the regular indoor season with strong marks at the Boise State Team Challenge and Tyson Invitational two weeks ago. Junior Tanisha Hawkins set a personal record time of 24.65 in her 200m win at the Boise State Challenge. Sophomore Kashae Knox won the 200m event with a time of 7.64. Senior Mariah Gramolini placed second in the 800m, finishing with a time of 2:14.80. Freshman Nicole Wadden had a strong showing in the 60m hurdles, recording a personal best time of 9.18 to finish third. Nevada’s 4X400 meter relay team comprised of Hawkins, Gramolini, and juniors Christina Smith and Shanee Martin took second with a time of 3:52.35. The Wolf Pack distance medley relay team made up of Gramolini, Wadden, sophomore Anne Underwood, and senior Samantha Diaz finished in first place with a time of 12:26.42.
GOVERNOR'S SERIES POINTS ON THE LINE Nevada will look to finish ahead of UNLV this weekend, as both teams are competing for points in the Governor's Series, presented by NV Energy.
