Track & Field Picks up Two Wins at Triple Dual
Jan. 22, 2005
Boise, Idaho - Coming off its second consecutive WAC Indoor Championship, the University of Nevada track & field team opened its 2005 indoor season with two wins at the Hampton Inn & Suites Classic hosted by Boise State Saturday. The meet was held at the Jackson's Track in Nampa, Idaho, the site of the 2005 WAC Championships later this year.
Nevada came out big against host and WAC rival Boise State 119-32 and Idaho State 84.5-76.5. One of the nation's best teams BYU was too much to handle though, defeating the Pack 116-53. The Wolf Pack had 10 top-three finishes on the day, winning three events.
In what has become a comfortable role in 800-meters, sophomore Kali Baker (Las Vegas, Nev.) took first place with a time of 2:14.15 over Boise State's Lindsey Barnes. The 800-meters is the same event the Baker won at the NCAA Outdoor West Regional at the end of last season. The team's second win came from senior Sarah Woydziak (Reno, Nev.) in the weight throw coming out with a toss of 54'2.75". Junior Jerita Wilson (Peoria, Ariz.) also came up big in the 200-meters winning in 25.54. Wilson also finished second in the 60-meters (7.78).
Also with a second-place finish was junior Jenna Huber (Grande Prairie, Canada) in the 3,000-meters in 10:37.53.
The Wolf Pack will host its first of two home meets this week with the Silver State Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 29. The meet will be held at the Bill Cosby Track at the Reno Livestock Events Center.
