Walnut, Calif. and Cerritos, Calif.– Led by seniors Samantha Calhoun and Angelica Earls, Nevada sprinters had a big weekend once again.
Their monster season continued with Calhoun winning the 100-meter dash at the Beach Invitational in a time of 11.67, which is tied with sophomore Kashae Knox for second on the Nevada all-time list. Earls finished in third place in the same race with a personal best time of 11.75, which is now the fourth-best time in Nevada history.
The two sprinters also participated on the women’s 4x100 team competing at the Mt. SAC relays. Competing in the race along with Knox and junior Tanisha Hawkins, the team finished in first place with a Nevada record of 45.10.
Head coach Shantel Twiggs was happy with the record-breaking performance but still believes that she can get more out of her athletes
“We still have some kinks to work out, but we are coming along and looking to continue to improve and run faster,” Twiggs said.
Wolf Pack throwers Kerri Simmons and Kennedy Hall had strong performances over the weekend. Simmons, a junior, took second place in the shot put at Mt. SAC with a throw of 50-8.25, while the freshman Hall had a personal best throw of 44-3.25, placing her on the Nevada top-ten shot put list for the first time.
With one weekend remaining before the Mountain West Outdoor Championships, the Pack will travel to the Brutus Hamilton Invitation, hosted by Cal, and the Drake Relays next weekend.
