SACRAMENTO, Calif. -

Senior Alexa Anderson and Junior Deborah Amoah led the University of Nevada track and field team with strong performances at the Mondo Mid-Major Challenge this weekend.

Anderson recorded her second best score in the heptathlon, finishing with 4,321 points to take the conference lead. Anderson’s score was just 70 points off of her personal best and an improvement of close to 500 points on her score at the challenge last year.

“This was a good meet for Alexa considering the weather conditions over the weekend,” head coach Shantel Twiggs said. “She has had a pretty solid senior season.”

Amoah continued her strong season with a second place finish in the long jump. The junior notched a season best jump of 5.93m which was just three centimeters off of her personal best mark.

“I was amazed by Debbie’s performance. She literally stepped off the bus, warmed up and had one of the best competitions of her life.”

The team will participate in the 54th annual Mt. SAC relays which will take place next weekend in Walnut, Calif.
