FRESNO, CALIF. -- The University of Nevada women's tennis team earned five wins to jump off to a hot start at the Bulldog Classic on Friday.
It was almost two hours before the Wolf Pack could start their day, as heavy fog caused the courts to be wet. Once play was able to begin, Michelle Okhremchuk lead the charge, as she earned a victory against Precious Gbadamosi of the University of Montana 6-3, 6-3 in her Singles Flight A round of 16 match.
Also notching a win in her Singles A Flight round of 16 match was Emma Verberne, as she moved past Heather Davidson of the University of Montana after three sets 7-6(5), 5-7, 6-1.
Doubles action saw three Wolf Pack victories, beginning with the team of Okhremchuk and Verberne. Together they defeated Gergana Boncheva and Iveta Masarova of the University of Pacific 8-3 in their round of 16 match.
Rymma Maslovacontributed two doubles victories on the day also. With her partner Anne Susdorf of host-school Fresno State, they battled past Christiana Ferrari and Regina Suarez of Pacific 9-7 in the round of 32. They continued their winning ways in the round of 16, where they knocked off Kelsey Chrisco and Jessica Strokes of Cal State Stanislaus 8-6.
Nevada continues play on Saturday at the Bulldog Classic.
