Bailly and Mizyuk Advance at ITA Regionals

STANFORD, Calif. The Nevada doubles team of Caroline Bailly and Maria Mizyuk reached the quarterfinals of the ITA Regionals on Saturday at Stanford.

The duo, seeded seventh in the event, faced Sacramento State’s Luba Schifris and Katsiaryna Zheltova in the round of 16 and Bailly and Mizyuk took an 8-5 victory in the match.

The Wolf Pack team moves on to face top-seeded Melanie Gloria and Tinesta Rowe of Fresno State in the quarterfinals on Sunday.

In singles play, Mizyuk began the day with a straight-set win over Jessica Hoath of St. Mary’s, 6-3, 6-1. But in the round of 16, she fell to fourth-seeded Jessica Nguyen of Stanford, 6-4, 7-5.

In the backdraw of the singles, Bailly had a strong day on Saturday. The junior won a pair of matches to advance to the round of 16 today against Cal Poly’s Diani Filip.

Senior Audrey Bardot won her first match of the singles backdraw against San Jose State’s Jennifer Williams, but she fell in the round of 32. The same was the case for Laetitia Tan, who beat Tine Snodgrass of Oregon before losing in the round of 32.

Sophomore Alice Hall received a bye in the opening round of the backdraw and then withdrew in her next match because of injury. Ly-Huong Dinh also received a bye in the opening round and then lost in the round of 32.
