RENO, Nev. - After having its last two matches cancelled due to inclement weather, the University of Nevada women's tennis team will hit the road for two matches this weekend, taking on UC Santa Barbara on Saturday at 10 a.m. and No. 57 Fresno State Sunday at 11 a.m.
Both matches will take place at the Wathen Tennis Center on the campus of Fresno State.
Nevada enters the weekend at 3-6, while UCSB is 7-10 (3-1 Big West) and Fresno State is 7-6 (2-0 WAC). Sunday's contest with Fresno State will be Nevada's first WAC match this season.
The Wolf Pack was scheduled to go to Santa Clara and San Francisco the weekend of March 16-17, but storms throughout northern California prevented the matches from taking place.
Michelle Okhremchuk and Emma Verberne have led Nevada in singles play this season, playing out of the first and second singles spots, respectively, for all nine matches. Okhremchuk is 5-4, while Verberne will look to get over .500 this weekend, as she sits at 4-5.
With three freshmen joining the Pack prior to the season, and another making her way to Reno during winter break, Nevada has continued to look for a consistent doubles lineup. To date, the most successful doubles team has been Gabriela Eufrasio and Sophie Stevens. The pair is 7-7 overall and 4-4 in dual play.
UC Santa Barbara defeated Loyola Marymount 5-2 its last time out. The win extended the Gauchos winning streak to three matches. During the streak, UCSB has also defeated UTEP 7-0 and Cal State Northridge 5-2.
Fresno State dropped its last contest to another ranked opponent. The Bulldogs lost 4-3 to No. 45 Pepperdine at home. The teams split the singles matches 3-3, but Pepperdine took the match on the strength of its doubles play. The Waves won all three doubles matches and the doubles point.
