RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada women’s tennis team will compete twice this week, taking on San Diego on Friday at 10:30 a.m., and Sacramento State Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Both matches will take place in San Diego, Calif., at the USD West Tennis Courts.
The Wolf Pack is 3-4 (0-0 WAC) and is coming off a weekend split in Las Vegas. Nevada fell 7-0 to UNLV on Friday, but rebounded with a 6-1 win over Northern Arizona on Saturday. San Diego is 1-6 (0-0 WCC) and has lost its last five matches. Sacramento State is 8-5 (4-0 Big Sky). Like Nevada, the Hornets defeated Northern Arizona 6-1 in their last match.
Nevada continues to be led by its singles play into the fourth week of the dual season, and by the top two spots in particular. Michelle Okhremchuk has occupied the No. 1 spot for each of Nevada’s first seven matches, coming away with four wins. Emma Verberne has played out of the second spot seven times, winning on three occasions.
Two players, Sophie Stevens and Juliette Legendre, have played out of the third singles position. Stevens is 2-4 there. Legendre is 1-0. The last three singles spots have been occupied by a number of players. Rymma Maslova is 4-3 overall, playing most often out of the No. 6 position, where she is 3-2. Gabreila Eufrasio, Iva Lepcevska and Faith Bassiouny have all seen singles action in the last three spots.
In doubles play, 12 combinations of players have seen the court, including six in dual play. The team of Stevens and Eufrasio has been the most successful to date, with seven total wins, four in dual play. The team of Legendre and Verberne has also seen some success, winning five times overall and twice in dual play.
