De Vrye, Bailly and Mizyuk Pick Up Singles Wins, Pack Falls to No. 69 UNLV

LAS VEGAS - The University of Nevada women’s tennis fell just short to No. 69 UNLV by a score of 4-3 on Saturday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas, Nev.

Senior Caroline Bailly picked up her first win in the No. 1 position this season, defeating Kristina Nedeltcheva 4-6, 7-6, 10-5. Bailly picked up her second consecutive singles win. Sophomore Florence De Vrye picked up a win in the No. 2 spot by defeating Niko Dimitrova 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. With the win, De Vrye improves to 7-8 overall and 4-1 in dual competition.

Junior Maria Mizyuk picked up her third win of the season by topping Anna Maskaljun 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 4 position. The win marks Mizyuk’s 45th in her career and now puts her seventh in the all-time list in team history. She is now one win away from tying Carol Evans (1996-99) for sixth on the list.

Nevada came close to picking the doubles point. Sophomores Caroline Stevens and Aodhnait Lombard picked up a win in the No. 3 spot by defeating Dimitrova and Rumyana Terzieva 8-6.

Bailly and Mizyuk were defeated 8-6 by Katy Williams and Nedeltcheva in the No. 1 position and Maskaljun and Alisa Razina defeated De Vrye and sophomore Lais Ogata 9-7 in the No. 2 position.

The Wolf Pack (1-4, 0-0 WAC) will open its Western Athletic Conference season on Sunday taking on No. 25 Boise State in Las Vegas. The match is set to start at 11 a.m. PT.
