Bailly, Mizyuk Pick Up Another Win But Pack Falls to No. 40 Utah
SALT LAKE CITY - Senior Caroline Bailly and junior Maria Mizyuk picked up their second consecutive win in doubles Sunday but the Nevada women’s tennis team were downed 5-2 by No. 40 Utah at Eccles Tennis Center.
Bailly and Mizyuk defeated Lisa Johnson and Anastasia Putilina 8-2 in the No. 2 spot to pick up their 42nd career victory together, extending the team’s all-time list. However sophomores Florence De Vrye and Lais Ogata fell short 8-5 to Erin Monson and Andrea Maughan in the No. 1 spot.
In singles competition, Bailly picked up her first dual win of the season in the No. 2 position, defeating Monson 6-0, 6-3. Ogata defeated Johnson 4-6, 7-6, 10-5 in the No. 3 spot.
De Vrye made her first appearance in the No. 1 position of her career but she was downed by Putilina 6-2, 6-1.
“Overall everyone played really well,” Nevada head coach Sylvain Malroux said. “We are extremely close and hopefully the match will give us more chances for next weekend. I am really proud that they are fighting and not giving up.”
Nevada (1-3, 0-0 WAC) will return to action next weekend when the Wolf Pack will head to Las Vegas, Nev., to face UNLV on Saturday. On Sunday it will open its Western Athletic Conference season against Boise State in Las Vegas.
