RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada women's tennis team will begin a three-match road trip on Friday with a dual match against the Idaho Vandals at 2:30 P.M.
The Wolf Pack (0-1) will face the Vandals (1-5) for its first action since competing at BYU a week ago. The Pack earned two singles victories and a doubles win during the match, led by Michelle Okhremchuk. She earned a singles victory over Morgan Anderson 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, and teamed with doubles partner Emma Verberne for a victory against Meghan Sheehan-Dizon and Nicolette Tran 8-7. The other singles victory came from Sheila Smiley, as she overcame Mackenna Maddox for the victory.
"We had a tough first match of the year," head coach Guillaume Tonelli said. "We need to forget about it and come out strong for our next three matches, because they will be just as much of a battle."
Idaho comes into the match after splitting a doubleheader with Idaho State and Boise State. Leading the way for the Vandals is Victoria Lozano, who earned a singles and doubles victory in the win over Idaho State. So far this season, Lozano has earned two doubles victories while also recording two doubles victories with partner Almudena Sanz. Sanz has also earned two singles victories on the year.
After a match with the Vandals, the Wolf Pack will compete against the Washington State Cougars (6-2) on Saturday, concluding with a match against the Montana Grizzlies (2-2) on Sunday. Washington State is led by Liudmila Vasilieva, who is 7-1 when competing from the No. 1 slot this season, and has also earned four doubles victories. For the Grizzlies, both Sasha Carter and Laurence Pelchat lead the way with 3 singles victories on the year. Both have also earned two doubles victories as well.
