Nevada Earns One Doubles and Two Consolation Wins in Vegas

LAS VEGAS – The University of Nevada women’s tennis team won one doubles match in the main draw and three singles matches in the consolation draw at the ITA Regional Championships Friday.

The victory came from the team of Juliette Legendre and Sophie Stevens, as they defeated Winde Janssens and Ania Anuszkiewicz 8-4. The pair fell in the next round to Sonia Klamczynska and Marlena Pietzuch of Boise State.

Two Nevada players making runs through the main singles draw were bounced from the competition, as Emma Verberne and Michelle Okhremchuk each lost on day three.

Verberne, seeded 14th fell in a third-set tiebreaker to the third overall seed Aleksandra Josifoska of UNLV. Verberne pushed the match with the nation’s No. 117 ranked player to the brink after dropping the first set 6-4.

Okhremchuk fell in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2 to Madeleine Saari-Bystrom of Denver University.

Consolation singles and doubles play continued late into the evening Friday, with Legendre earning two victories to make her way into the round of 16.  Faith Bassiouny also won a consolation single match to move into the second round, but could advance no further.
