LAS VEGAS, Nev. - At the third day of action at the ITA Mountain Regionals in Las Vegas, the University of Nevada women's tennis team came away with two victories.
The Pack was 3-for-5 in its matches on day three in Las Vegas, picking up a win in both singles and doubles play. One of the victories set up a quarterfinals match for the No. 5 seed Michelle Okhremchuk in the singles draw. The No. 3 seed doubles pair of Okhremchuk and Sheila Smiley captured a victory to secure a quarterfinals berth as well. Head coach Guillaume Tonelli was proud of the way the team competed today.
"The girls are giving it their all," he said. "They're enjoying be out there and playing their hardest."
Okhremchuk picked up two victories on her way to the quarterfinals, her first coming against Lucia Kovarcikova of Utah in their third round match. Okremchuk stopped her easily in straight sets 6-0, 6-2. Okremchuk then ousted Evy Van Genechten of Denver University 6-1, 6-1.
Okhremchuk and Smiley picked up the lone doubles victory in their third round match against Paola Artiga and Santa Shumilina of arch-rival UNLV by a score of 8-4.
The ITA Mountain Regionals continue from Las Vegas on Sunday with two rounds of doubles play and the conclusion of the singles draw.
