LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The University of Nevada women's tennis team continued was perfect in all three of its matches at the ITA Mountain Regionals on Thursday.
The Pack did not drop a match on the rain-shortened day in Las Vegas at the ITA Mountain Regionals, capturing wins in two singles and one doubles match. The day was a great confidence builder for the girls, but comes as no surprise to head coach Guillaume Tonelli.
"They have been practicing well and implementing a great positive and encouraging philosophy," he said. "We are very happy with the way they competed and we cannot wait to see what tomorrow brings."
The two singles wins came from the senior Michelle Okhremchuk and the newcomer to the Pack Sheila Morales Hidalgo. Okhremchuk was given the No. 5 seed in the tournament and easily stopped Bobbi Oshiro of Boise State University in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. Morales Hidalgo continued her hot start to her Wolf Pack campaign when she took down the No. 6 seed in the tournament Michaela Bezdickova of University of New Mexico in straight sets 6-4, 6-1.
The doubles victory came from the No. 3 seeded team of Okhremchuk and Sheila Smiley, as they defeated the team of Annemieke Witte and Ross-Poly Nguyen from New Mexico State University by a score of 8-3.
Two rounds of singles and one round of doubles will take place at the ITA Mountain Regionals in Las Vegas on Friday.
