BERKELEY, Calif. -- The University of Nevada women's tennis team notched three victories on Sunday to close out the Cal-Nike Invitational.
The Pack picked up two singles victories and one doubles victory on the final day in Berkeley. Head coachGuillaume Tonellisaw today as a learning experiencefor the young season.
"The girls showed great heart on this closing day," he said. "It was a very useful tournament for us to prepare for ITA Regional Championships next week.
Sheila Smiley picked up the first singles win for the Pack in her Round Robin draw. She handled Laia Hernandez of Marquette in in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. Sheila Morales Hidalgopicked up her first victory as a member of the Pack, as she rolled past Ali Dawson, also of Marquette, in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.
The doubles victory came from the pari of Smiley and Monika Magusiak. Together, the beat Dawson and Hernandez handily 8-4.
The ITA Regional Championships begin on Oct. 9.
