Nevada advances to Quarterfinals with win over Utah State

FRESNO, Calif. - The University of Nevada women's tennis team is moving to the next round in the Mountain West Championships, as they secured a berth in the quarterfinals with a 4-0 victory over Utah State on Wednesday.
The No. 7 seed Wolf Pack took down the No. 10 seed Utah State on Wednesday with a decisive 4-0 victory, dropping only one doubles match in the contest. Nevada picked up two doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead, and made quick work in singles play to move to the next round.
"They players fought their hearts out and I am really proud of what they accomplished today," said Guillaume Tonelli, Nevada women's tennis head coach. "We are taking it one step at a tim, and getting ready for the next round on Friday."
Nevada opened the match with a doubles victory on court two from Juliette Legendre and Sheila Smiley, as they took down Amber Stuhlmann and Katie Sweet, 8-3. After dropping court three, Michelle Okhremchuk and Sheila Morales gave Nevada the lead by stopping McKenzie Davis and Kallie Sperry on court one, 8-4.
Of the six scheduled singles matches, only three were completed, as Nevada clinched the match quickly with three straight wins. The first came on court two from Morales, as she knocked off Sperry, 6-1, 6-1. Following was Legendre, as she dispatched Lexi Turley in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1. The closing victory belonged to Monika Magusiak on court six, where she ousted Stuhlmann, 6-2, 6-0.
Nevada will be in action again on Friday, April 26 in the quarterfinal round, when it battles No. 2 New Mexico at 2 pm.
