RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada women’s tennis team fell 7-0 to No. 58 Hawai’i at Caughlin Club on Sunday, competing in its final regular-season match.
The loss dropped the Wolf Pack to 6-11 (0-4 WAC), while the Rainbow Wahine improved to 12-6 (3-1 WAC).
Matches were tightly contested from the very beginning, with Hawai’i taking two of the three doubles matches for a 1-0 lead. After Hawai’i won at the third doubles position and Nevada came back with a victory at the first, the decisive third match went to a tiebreaker.
The tiebreaker followed the trend of the match itself, going to the Rainbow Wahine 7-5. The loss broke a five-match winning streak for Sophie Stevens and Juliette Legendre. Michelle Okhremchuk and Emma Verberne improved to 6-1 in dual play and 3-1 in WAC play with their 8-4 win at No. 1.
The Wolf Pack continued to fight in singles play, but the Rainbow Wahine proved to be too much, sweeping the singles matches for an overall win.
Nevada will begin post-season play when it travels to Las Cruces, N.M. to compete in the WAC Championships from April 26-29.
