Women's Tennis Drops Match in Vegas

LAS VEGAS - The University of Nevada women's tennis team dropped its match with rival UNLV on Saturday by a final score of 6-1.
The Wolf Pack (9-5, 2-2 MW) couldn't overcome the Lady Rebels (13-6, 3-1 MW) on Saturday, snatching only two victories on the day, one in singles and doubles, respectively. Senior Emma Verberne's 12 match winning streak came to an end after she dropped her match with No. 89 Lucia Batta in three sets, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3. Verberne hadn't lost a set since Feb. 8 and had won her past 24 sets.
"It was a tough day today," head coach Guillaume Tonelli said. "We battled hard but it just wasn't our day."
In singles, the lone victory came from Sheila Smiley in position four, as she pulled out the three set victory over Anett Ferenczi-Bako 4-6, 6-0, 7-5.
In doubles, it was the pair of Verberne and Michelle Okhremchuk who was victorious, as the snatched a victory from Batta and Nives Pavlovic by a score of 8-7.
The Wolf Pack is in action again on Sunday when it faces off with San Diego State in Las Vegas beginning at 2 p.m.
